TBUG - Turtle Boy Urban Gardeners

TBUG, or Turtle Boy Urban Gardeners to those who are unfamiliar, did a final weeding and clean up of the Turtle Boy garden in downtown Worcester a couple weeks ago.

Annuals were yanked, perennials were cut back where needed, and some rogue weeds were removed.

We also did the same at the veterans of Southwest Asian War memorial.

Over all, it was a great growing season for TBUG! We had only a few let downs - I might need to reconsider the coral bells variety I picked as it didn't seem happy though it never quite died either. One shrub was trampled so half of it had to be pruned off, hopefully it doesn't get any diseases and recovers with some new growth in the spring. And we had one shrub that was stolen. Not sure why someone would bother to do that...oh, and we had massive weeds thanks to the poor quality compost we got, but we stayed on top of it.

We had quite a few plant successes - the coleus did terrifically as did the petunias, and the shrubs look like they have taken root. We'll see how they fare after the winter. I hope to add more perennials next year to round out the garden, always trying to keep low maintenance in mind.

Many thanks to all the volunteers who made this possible!!! Your strong backs and enthusiasm is greatly appreciated and we could not have done it without you! You are TBUG!!!
