Greening the Mean Streets of Worcester - Guerrilla Gardening

Mission accomplished!

Approximately 400 seed bombs were successfully deployed around the city last night, with no one being stopped or questioned.

Our three teams hit a wide variety of areas, amongst which were the old Big D on Mill St., empty lot by State Liquor on Park Ave., Washington Sq., Prescott and Concorde Sts., parking area at Beacon, Madison, and Southbridge Sts., empty lot on Salem St. across from municipal parking, Mustard Seed area, and many others. A couple of gardeners also have plans to hit a few more areas on their own.

We had a Little League pitcher on one team who was really able to hurl them!

We plan to do some follow up and keep you posted on how our seeds fared. Should be a couple months before we can tell if anything took root. Keep your eyes open for not only sunflowers, but cleome, cosmos, Chinese lanterns, brown eyed susans, safflower, and morning glory. Keep your fingers crossed that the weather cooperates!

I still have about half a bucket of seed bombs left at the shop if anyone is interested. Otherwise, I’m sure I can find a place to drop them!

I love this idea! Why not put wasted space to use-better for the environment as it is adding more plants to the world AND the world could certainly use more beautiful flowers to appreciate!
