I don't consider myself an artistic photographer, just a gal who takes snapshots, but these photos of a dahlia came out pretty well, so I thought I'd share.

I'm fascinated with the way the petals are rolled...

...and by how much they look like mini callas without spadices in this closeup view.

This is my favorite photo!

Dahlias, like many flowers, are named for a botanist, in this case 18th century Swedish botanist Anders Dahl who was a student of Carolus Linnaeus.
